Big Girl

We've been casually potty training Addison since she was about 19 months old. We started out slowly with just the introduction to her "big girl" potty as she became more and more interested with us going to the bathroom. We haven't pushed it at all because she's in mother's day out twice a week and they require diapers at her age whether she's potty trained or not. About 2 months ago we bought her big girl panties and she LOVES them. She'll wear them occasionally while we are at the house and is pretty good about getting to the potty when she needs to go.

About a week ago we went diaper-less all day and she only had 1 accident. We even ventured out to go grocery shopping with no diaper and she pottied twice when we were there!! After the second time, she looks me dead in the face and says, "Mommy, I really don't want to wear diapers anymore." Um, excuse me? She was dead serious and I have to say that, with the exception of school, she never wears diapers anymore and has had 2 peepee accidents in 4 days!

Fast forward to today...I went up to check on her mid-nap to make sure the temperature in her room was ok and the second I opened the door, I saw a cute, naked, squishy baby tush! She wasn't kidding when she said she didn't want to wear diapers anymore! I reluctantly covered her up without putting her diaper on...we'll see what happens!

Well, the time has come to convert Addi into a toddler bed....she finally climbed out. Our little monkey has been hiking her leg up over the rail for a couple of days but, tonight, she finally got all the way over :(

I was flipping back through the blog and realized that I don't have any pictures of Addi and her Nana at the farm! They go a couple times a month so Nana can see Petey (her horse) and Addi can "play" with all of the animals and see her Auntie Ann. She LOVES the horses and there are a couple of adorable rabbits that she has gotten very interested in. Addi is such a Nana's girl and they have such a blast together at the farm!

Addison made her first appearance at Raidergate this weekend! It was so great to be in a college atmosphere again and Addison had a FABULOUS time being the center of attention. That girl is a social bug! She hung out at Raidergate with us for almost 2 hours before it was time for her to go home with Papa and Grammy and for mommy and daddy to go to the game! Unfortunately, the Raiders lost but we had a great night out with Lindsey and Helio!

Addi had her first day of school today! She LOVED it! She was really excited to go because we kept telling her all week how much fun school was going to be and that she got to take Petey (her horse) and the "pac-pack" (backpack) with her. She is OBSESSED with her backpack. She wants to have it on her all of the time and she'll just walk around saying "pac-pack." Charlie took her up for registration a few weeks ago and she got to play on their awesome playground so we made sure she knew she was going to get to play on the playground again at school. When we dropped her off she whined for a nano second when we said we were leaving but as soon as we told her she was going to stay there and play and mommy and daddy were going to come get her later she was just fine. The teachers said she didn't nap very well (they forgot to give her her paci) but she didn't cry the whole day! When we went to pick her up she showed us all of the neat toys she had gotten to play with and she didn't want to leave.

Mom and I took Addi to Fiesta Texas today to see the new "Wiggles World" attraction they built. Addi loves The Wiggles so we thought she'd really enjoy it....not so much. She wasn't really thrilled by any of it (as you can see from the pics) but it she did enjoy the first 10 seconds of driving the big red car! It was just too hot and they had the splash pad closed. We definitely wore her out though...she fell asleep when I carried her out to the car...

Well, Addi had her first timeout today. She is usually an exceptionally well-behaved toddler and very mindful of what you're telling her but for some reason, today was an exception. She's just starting to push her limits and see how far she can go but usually if we tell her no firmly, she'll drop whatever she's doing and run up to us with a sad look and give us a hug (how's that for a guilt trip?). But, today at dinner she kept throwing her vegetables and I told her "no" multiple times. I looked at her straight in the face and said "don't you throw that again, mommy said no" in my best "'aren't I a big scary mommy?' voice." Well, don't you know she looked me right in the eye and dropped her green bean on the floor. So I picked her up sat her down in the corner and told her she was in timeout for throwing her food and not listening to mommy. She sat there for a second and stared at me then started to giggle and get up. I put her right back down, told her she was in timeout for a minute and then her waterworks started. She does NOT like it when mommy and daddy get mad at her. So she sat there for a whole 45 seconds until I told her she could get up and tell mommy that she was sorry. She hopped right up and ran to me and gave me a gigantic hug and cried :( Then she wouldn't let me put her down for 5 minutes. My sweet girl.

Since our girl will be 18 months old in 2 days (gasp!) I wanted to jot down a few things she's got going on! It is unbelievable how much has changed in just 2 or 3 months.

She really has a new word every day. We're up to 53 words right now. She's not really making 2 and 3 word sentences yet with the exception of "help please", "up please", and "thank you". (At least she's polite huh?) We're working on counting right now and she's got 1 and 2 down without any help. She's not really interested in getting past 2 though! Every time I say "three" she says "no." She's repeating letters of the alphabet right now and will say A, B, C, D, E, O, and G. She's just learned how to say her name too and it is so so cute. I'll ask her what her name is and she gets really coy and quietly says "addiiiii". Her favorite words right now are duck, uh oh, no, yeah, back pack, elmo, and ball. EVERYTHING is a duck. Thankfully she pronounces that word very well :) She's identifying people in pictures really well too. We're housesitting for my parents this weekend and they have a ton of pictures on the fridge and she ran up to it today and screamed "ABBY!". She just adores her cousin! She's getting really good at matching shapes too. She's got the shape sorter and a couple of puzzles that she really doesn't have a problem with any more. I think her favorite thing to do right now is stack things. She does it everywhere too. When we're at the grocery store she'll find the biggest thing she can find on the bottom shelf and pull as many out as she can and either stacks them or lines them up in a row. She also loves running right now. It's so cute because she'll crouch down and look at us and wait for us to say "1, 2, 3, GO!" and then she'll take off running and giggling. I'll have to video it and put it on here because it is adorable!

One of the big changes in our house is our naptimes and bedtimes. We've always held her to help her to fall sleep. We tried to change that 3 or 4 months ago in hopes that she'd be able to get herself to sleep without us just because "it's something they need to figure out how to do on their own". She wasn't really too thrilled about it. We gave it a good month or so but it just wasn't working and when we decided that Addi might be the only baby we ever have, we decided we want to get all the snuggles in while we can! Well, the past few weeks she's been really squiqqly and wormy just because she's getting too big for us to hold her the way she used to (sigh :( ) so she's really had a hard time falling asleep just because she's so uncomfortable. So mommy started taking over sleeptime duties and we may have just figured it out. Daddy still reads her her books right before bed and then I come in to put her down. I've been just snuggling her for a few minutes to get that last little bit of energy out of her and then when I think she's ready I'll ask her if she wants to go lay in bed. She usually replies with "no" and a big snuggly hug. Then I ask her if she wants to go lay in bed and mommy will sing her a song. "Yeah". (Don't ask me why my sweet little girl wants to hear my awful singing voice!) So I'll lay her down, snuggle Petey (her horse) up to her and sing her a song and rub her tummy. Then I tell her that it's time to go night night, I love her, and I'll see her in the morning. This immediately causes her to stand up and grab on to me. So instead of picking her up like I usually do I say "big hug night night" and give her a big hug and ask her to lay down for mommy. Works every time :). Then I tell her again that it's time for night night and I tell her how much I love her and that I'll be downstairs. Then I leave. Usually you would insert shrilling screams at this point but ever since we started that routine there has not been one. single. sound. I have no idea why this has worked. I did notice though that when I started telling her where I was going to be while she was sleeping things started to turn. So, other mommies of babies that love to be held to get to sleep, there is hope!!!

I apologize for how long winded this post has gotten. I don't really write in Addi's baby book so I'm planning on having this blog printed into a little book as a keepsake of our sweet little girl. She really is the biggest blessing and every single day, multiple times a day, I can't believe that she's mine.

FOOTBALL IS HERE!!! Finally! There were some serious football withdrawls in this household.

We took Addison to Cowboys' Training Camp today. It's so nice that they have it in the air conditioned Alamodome and we don't have to sit outside and sweat for an hour. Addi had a pretty good time! She clapped when everybody else clapped, yelled "ball!" when she saw the balls flying in the air, and definitely turned some heads in her little pint-sized Tony Romo jersey :)

We went to the museum today with Great Grandma Tonya, Auntie Anne, and Aysia. They had some kind of interactive exhibit going on that was a little too difficult for Addi to enjoy. She had a great time outside though and in the tree house!

Happy 4th of July! We spent the fourth at The Johnston's farm again this year for the third year in a row. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite traditions. The first year we went we announced that we were expecting little Addi. The second trip Addison was just 4 1/2 months old. What's funny about that trip though is that I distinctly remember 2 different groups of people there. Those with kids (grown adult kids don't count!) and those without (Addi was only 4 months old so she didn't count...no running around yet!). Those of us without kids sat inside in the air conditioning or on the porch underneath the fans having good conversations and enjoying our cold beers. Then there was the other group...I remember watching 10 or so little kids running around the pool and swimming with all of the parents sitting in lawn chairs around the pool watching them with their trusty adult beverages in hand and Mom Braden telling Charlie and I, "just wait...that will be you next year." Sure enough, Addison had us around the pool ALL DAY LONG. We were officially thrown head first into the mommy and daddy crowd.

The morning of the fourth Addison went to her first parade. She held interest for a little while but it was ridiculously hot and nap time was quickly approaching so we had to cut the parade a little short. None the less we all had a great time and Papa and Poppo really outdid themselves with the barbeque. Thank you Chris and Gayle for a wonderful weekend!

my girl loves her some fashion. we took advantage of a HUGE sale at Carter's yesterday and i had to do some serious restraining to keep from spending $200. they have an adorable new line that actually resembles something that i would wear! i got addi this adorable brown, green, and white skirt with a cute matching t-shirt and she wore it today to go shopping with me and nana.

after we got ready for bed tonight addison walked over, grabbed her new shirt and gave it to me saying "on" in the sweetest little girl voice. so i put her shirt on her and she walked over, grabbed her new skirt, brought it over to me and says "on?"! it's the first time she's shown interest in her clothes and my heart just smiled from all of her cuteness. needless to say, she wore her new outfit over her pj's until it was time to get in bed. i can't believe how quickly she's growing up. her daddy is in big trouble if addison inherits her mommy's shopping genes :)

I realize it has been a LONG time since I've posted so I wanted to update everybody on what's going on!

Addison is 14.5 months old. The time has flown. She has developed such a little personality and she is such a silly girl! She is absolutely the most wonderful thing to ever happen to us. Right now she is really trying to speak real words. She's always been a little chatter box but it's so cute to watch her try and say new words. Here's a little list of her words right now:

* uh-oh
* bye bye

I think I got them all. She signs "more", "please", and "all done" when she is eating. She actually started doing that about 9 months old...it made feeding time a lot easier! She also likes to make animal sounds. We moo for our cows and raspberry for a horse. She can do snakes and chickens too. The horse is by far her favorite sound to make. I need to get it on video because it's so darn cute.

We've always had a sweet, cuddly girl but for the past month or 2 she has been a huggin and kissin machine! There have been numerous nights where it wasn't bed time until both mommy and daddy got at least 5 or 6 hugs and kisses each. That is absolutely my favorite part of being a mom right now. Those sweet little sloppy kisses make my day!

Charlie just got a new job working for a mortgage company. We're really excited about it because it keeps him at home with us :) All he needs is a computer, a telephone, and the occasional commute to Houston (which Grammy and Papa do not mind at all!). Hopefully this will turn into a wonderful thing! We are definitely blessed.

happy easter! we spent the night before easter dying our easter eggs. i was so excited to share this tradition with addi. growing up, we dyed easter eggs every single year. i swear my brother and i were still having easter egg hunts in high school! i love that i have my own little family to carry on this tradition with. addi was not too sure about this activity when we first started. right when we got going, addi picked up one of the spoons we were using to dip the eggs in the dye with and tried to put it in her mouth. charlie and i both reacted with a really loud "NO!" and about scared the bejeezus out of the poor kid. she broke into hysterics :(

she loved her easter egg hunt! we weren't sure if she would really "get" it but she absolutely did and had a blast! she walked all over the front yard collecting her eggs and putting them in her basket. we actually had to take them out and re-hide them because she was not done hunting! wonderful day :)

We all packed up today and headed out to Lost Maples for a little hike. It was beautiful! We had to carry Addison most of the way because it was a little too rocky for the stroller. She had a great time looking at all of the colorful trees and the weather was perfect for her. Here are a few pics!

Trip to Houston

We took another trip to Houston this week to see Charlie's family. Addison had a great time seeing the rest of her family. She absolutely adores her Uncle Will and I think the feeling is mutual ;) They have such a fun time together and he gets the best belly laughs out of her!

Aunt Lindsey is the Musical Director at Westchester Academy and we got to catch the debut of her fall show! They produced Peter Pan and it was AMAZING!! Complete with flying characters of course! She is so talented and she has such a great group of kids. We got to take Addison to see a little bit of the dress rehearsal before opening night. The last time we went to see one of Lindsey's musicals was when I was about 7 months pregnant and Addison kicked the entire time. This time was no exception! It was really funny because we were sitting right behind the orchestra pit with them facing us and one of the strings players kept giggling because Addison was so excited and throwing her arms everywhere like she was conducting her own show. She loved it. It will be really nice when we can actually take her to see the actual show! Great job Linds!!!

When we got to Houston, Mama Sue had just gotten back with pretty much the entire toy section of Target! Addi, of course, was in heaven. Not only did she have a bunch of new toys but she also had a bunch of new boxes to play with! Papa Joe read to her almost every single night. Reading has quickly become one of Addison's favorite things. If you put that book down and she's not ready to be finished with it she will let you know! So she really enjoyed being able to sit on Papa Joe's lap and have a new voice reading her books.

Houston Zoo!

Oh how we love the Zoo. I think she could go every single day if we let her. We decided to head to the Houston Zoo with Mama Sue for a couple of hours while we were in town. This place puts the San Antonio Zoo to shame! They had wonderful, huge exhibits in a park-like atmosphere. I think she enjoyed the fish the most this time. The monkeys were still high up on the list though!

She was such a trooper. We ended up being at the zoo for about 3.5 hours and she didn't whine or fuss a single second. When we finally walked back to the car Charlie cradled Addi and the second he did those eyes were closed and she was zonked out the whole way home.

Play Date!

While we were in Houston, we had a play date with Hunter and his cousin Reece. Hunter is exactly 2 months younger than Addison and he is such a cutie pie! Reece just turned 4 months and she seemed so itty bitty! I can't believe the difference a couple of months makes in babies.

During the play date, I realized that a little game we play with Addison turned her into a little bully! Whenever we'd pick up Addison out of her crib, we'd grab her pacifier and put the opposite end in our mouths just because it was easier to carry that way while we were carrying her. The last 2 months or so she's realized that that's her paci and it belongs in her mouth so she would snatch it out of our mouths and shove it back in hers. She thought it was funny that we were trying to steal her paci so we just kept doing it cause she was so dang cute. Well, fast forward to now and she is a paci theif! Addison kept crawling over to Hunter and yanking his pacifiier out of his mouth and putting it in hers. Every time I gave it back to him, she just crawled right back over and took it out again! Poor Hunter isn't quite crawling yet so he was just a sitting duck! He was such a sweet boy though and he let Addi have his paci and his momma went and got him another one. I can't wait to get these guys together again when their both crawling! Thanks for letting us hang out Ali!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! We didn't get too crazy with a big costume for Addi this year. Of course her slacker parents didn't even make it to the party store to pick out a costume until the afternoon of Halloween...not much of a selection then! There were some really cute baby costumes but they were all so puffy and stuffed that she would have roasted if she were in it more than 2 minutes. Instead, we opted for the cute little mouse you see below! We went trick or treating for about 45 minutes with some other kids from the neighborhood and then had a little block party at the neighbors! It was a great first Halloween!

Trip to the Park!

Mom and I took Addi to the park to swing today. I've been looking everywhere for a park that has bucket swings and it turns out there's one right by mom's house! Addi LOVED the swing! I'm sure she would have stayed there all day if we let her!

8 Months Old!

Addison is 8 months old today! We can't even believe it's been that long since she first made her appearance into the world! Here are some of the exciting things she's doing now:

Crawling
Pulling herself to a stand on EVERYTHING
She can wave hello and goodbye
Walks extemely well with our help
Turns the pages of her books
Drinks out of a sippy cup by herself
She can pick up her own finger foods and put them in her mouth all by herself
She's trying really hard to clap
Says "mama", "dada", and "nana". None of it is really in context of course so we don't count them as words but it's still adorable!

This kid is all over the place! She is constantly on the move. We're still working on getting some teeth and this, along with the crawling and standing, have really thrown a wrench into our system. Naps, according to Addi, are no longer necessary. There are way better things to do than go to sleep! We've sadly resorted to driving her around to get her down. The second we put her down into her crib though those eyes pop wide open and its time to go! This makes for very sleepy parents! Luckily, fingers crossed, she is still sleeping through the night though. Its a little bit harder to get her down but once she's asleep she usually stays that way until about 7am.

She's got quite the little personality. She blabbers and giggles all day long (throw in some whining there too...super fun) and the most random things send her into hysterics! She's never met a stranger either. We took her to church for the first time last week and left her in the nursery. That girl was in hog heaven with all of the other babies! She waves at anybody that sends a glance her way and flashes her toothless smile. She's such a sweet girl :)

Pumpkin Patch!

We all took Addison and Abigail to the Pumpkin Patch last weekend. It was a pretty measley little pumpkin patch but they didn't know any better so it was just fine. We walked through a hay maze, went on a hay ride, and picked out our pumpkin to carve! That was pretty much the extent of our visit. We did end up buying the most perfectly round and orange pumpkin I've ever seen though!

We have a crawler!!!

Addison has been "inching" around for about 3 weeks now. Not quite crawling but she could get herself where she needed to go. Well, the last week or so, it has been a full-on crawl! Granted, she doesn't get anywhere very quickly yet but she's definitely crawling! We were thinking she might be a late crawler because she much prefers to stand up and "walk" everywhere (with our help of course) but she proved us wrong! I'll try and get it on video today of her crawling and "walking" to post for everybody. Can't you believe this little monkey is big enough to crawl?!? It all goes by way too fast.

Our little monkey has been teething pretty badly the last couple of days. I feel so horrible for her! The only thing helping is chewing on ice cubes in her mesh feeder and keeping a good flow of Tylenol going through her. Those little buggers don't look like they want to come out yet though! I wish they would just hurry up and poke through so I can have my happy baby back!

First Trip to the Zoo!

We took Addi to the zoo for the first time today and she loved it! The weather was so wonderful...finally had a day that felt like Fall! We spent a lot of time watching the monkeys fly around their cages. They were quite active and they held her attention for a long time! We'll definitely be spending a lot more time at the zoo. It was extremely baby friendly and they even had a petting zoo!

Addi personally "signed" Mama Sue's, Grandpa's and Uncle Ty's birthday cards. She's quite the little artist! I think more paint ended up on her than on the cards but I think she had a pretty good time! We also enjoyed our very own popsicle (don't worry...just frozen organic apple juice!) that felt very good on our teething gums!

We gave Baby Girl a bath today and, as most dogs do after, she ran around the house drying herself off. Addison thought it was so funny! Sorry about the quality of the video. We had the camera propped up on the coffee table that was pretty far away. You can still hear her cute little laugh though!

Hi everybody! I apologize it's been so long since we've updated the blog. I promise I'll get better ;) Here's a glance of what's been going on since our last visit!

Addison turned 6 months old on August 19th. I have no idea where the time has gone! She had her check up where the doctor confirmed what we already knew....we have a very good eater on our hands! She was 19 pounds (95th percentile) and, wait for it, 28 inches (also in the 95th percentile)!!! We can't believe that a child of ours is taller than 95 percent of other babies her age! Woohoo!!! We got the ok to start her on veggies and fruit (she had been eating only formula and oatmeal up until this point). Here are a few pics from those adventures:

The food has been fun though. She now loves her oatmeal and she'll eat yogurt all day long if you let her! Her favorite vegetable is green beans although that seems to be changing every few days or so.

Last week we were in Houston for Poppaw's memorial service. Addi got to meet a lot of family she's never met before. She met her cousins Paul (8 months) and Hannah (just a few days behind Paul). She LOVED being around other babies!

In the last 2 weeks, Addison has been pulling herself to a stand! She is such a determined little baby! I have a video of her pulling herself up in her crib that I'll have to find and post for you. She's thisclose to crawling. She'll get up on her hands and knees but she's not really too sure how to get the hands and the knees moving at the same time! Hopefully in the next couple of weeks she'll get the hang of it.

Alright, that's enough rambling for one post, let me break it up into another!

My First Tea Party

Auntie Anne invited me to my first Flower Fairies Tea Party! Flower Fairy Aysia hosted the party and it was so much fun! We hunted for flower fairies, did a flower fairy dance, had some tea, had story time and even decorated cookies and fairy wands! (Ok, so I slept through most of it but it sounded really fun!)

My First Day Swimming!

Mommy and Daddy took me swimming today! It was pretty late in the day so I was a little bit tired. I think I actually enjoyed it though! We're going to go swimming again really soon because Mommy thinks I'll have a lot more fun when I'm not so sleepy. It was too cold for Mommy to get in (she's such a wuss!) so Daddy swam with me. I definitely got his warm blood because I didn't even flinch! Anyways, here'a short little video and a couple of pictures!

Yep! It was actually 3 weeks ago and I've been waiting to post it because we actually caught it on video but we can't find the software for the video camera to load it onto the computer! As soon as we do I will post it! She rolled over twice from her belly to her back all by herself at 2.5 months! What an overachiever :)

I went to the doctor today for my 2-month checkup. I weigh 12lbs 5oz and I'm 24 inches long! The doctor said I'm really healthy and he gave me some eyedrops to help control all my eye goop!

I'm growing so fast! I spent the day down at Auntie Ann's farm with Nana, cousin Abigail, and Mommy. Mommy let me lay down in my stroller under the shade trees and feel the nice cool breeze. I loved it! All the horses didn't quite know what to think of me! I didn't really know what to make of them either though...I just stared and stared. I think I would like to go back there really soon!

My First Road Trip

Mom and Dad took me on my first road trip today. We went to Houston to see Mama Sue, Papa Joe, Aunt Lindsey, and Uncle Will. I also got to meet my Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather. I was pretty tired after my long trip so Great Grandma let me take a nap in her arms.

Mom and Dad said I did really well for my first trip. I didn't really like sitting in my carseat for so long but I tried to sleep as much as I could so it would go by faster. Phew...I'm exhausted!

We are Homeowners!

We finally bought a house! After 6 months of looking and 2 months of waiting for them to accept our offer we finally signed on our new house today! We are so excited to have our own space that we can do what we would like with. We'll spend the next week or two doing some light remodeling and hopefully we'll be all moved in the middle of April! I had so much fun today! Mommy put me on my playmat with some new toys Miss Lauren brought me. I held my toy all by myself for the first time! I could tell Mommy was really excited because she was making really big smiles at me. When I put my toy in my mouth she got even more excited and told me what a big girl I am! I guess it's a big deal to hold something for the first time :0)
